Wings 2 is a flight simulator for the iPhone/iPod Touch. However it’s not like other
flight simulators which actually simulate airliners. Wings 2 is more like a relaxing flight simulator experience than a proper gaming one.
You don’t have any run-ways or airliners, all you do is float above different landscapes (4 to choose from).
The graphics are very nice however if you fly close to the ground it becomes a bit distorted. Like I said earlier this is more for people
who want to relax than actually play a game so the music fits in that category giving you a ‘zen’ feeling.
Now on to the controls; what you basically do is tilt your iPhone in different directions to move around and I have to say it is calibrated quite well.
Very responsive, accurate and well easy to use. This is one of the first games I’ve played that has been calibrated so well with the accelorometer.
You can fly at different speeds by increasing or decreasing your throttle, that is done by moving a panel up or down.
I recommend flying slow if you want to relax. There are two different views aswell one is the floating view, which basically
just gives you a smooth flying experience. The other view called the ‘flying’ view this tries to give you more of an airplane flying feeling.
You can choose if you want to show the HUD aswell. If you crash your plane into the ground your screen appears to be damaged like broken glass, the more you do it the more damage appears on your screen. However this is just a special effect it doesn’t affect your plane in anyway way, the damage on your screen will disappear after a couple of seconds.
There are four different landscapes to choose from each with a distinct weather condition and different plains to fly over, you can also change the background music while flying by tapping the screen and then the audio icon. There are three different sounds to choose from.
The conclusion; Wings in my opinion is not really for people looking to play a flight simulator that features airliners, airports etc. It is more for people who are looking to relax and just get a feeling of flying over different types of landscapes.
